Should I Settle My Workers’ Compensation Case?

It is quite common for an injured worker to be offered a settlement to end their workers’ compensation claim. The settlement offer will usually be addressed by their employer and the insurance company that sold the workers’ compensation policy to that employer. No matter how official this settlement offer might look, there is no guaranteeing that it will be fair.

Insurance companies are businesses first and foremost. Like most businesses, they are out to make a profit at the end of the day. One way that an insurer can try to protect their profits is by lowballing settlement offers to workers’ compensation claimants. The settlement will look good to someone who is hurting both physically and financially, but it will actually be much less than what they deserve. However, the second a settlement offer is signed, the case is over and there’s no going back.

Do not sign a workers’ compensation settlement offer if you’re not sure it reflects the compensation you really deserve and require.

Rely on a Legal Professional for Guidance

Going through a workers’ compensation claim alone can be stressful, especially if you’re staring at a settlement offer that might be intentionally low. At Hansford McDaniel LLC, injured workers come to our doors all the time for legal guidance. The unfortunate truth is that they are not told enough about workers’ compensation benefits by their employers or the insurance company, so they don’t know what they should be provided after an accident or even how to ask for those benefits. We take great pride in being able to educate our clients about their rights and show them how we can protect those rights when it matters the most.
